About Us

Who are we?
Inspire Through Music was created to help children from challenging backgrounds engage with and express themselves through music. Students will create, write and perform their own music in our workshops. These workshops provide children with the freedom to write about subjects that they may relate to such as family life, bullying and mental health.
This has proven to be beneficial as it increases students’ engagement and allows them to open up about life experiences, which can help with safeguarding issues. Not only will the students gain a range of new skills in songwriting and music performance but will also learn about how a song is made and basic musical production.
Music
Instilling creativity and positivity through music. Leaning the skills of impactful music making.
Minds
Helping students create the right mind set, helping them to achieve their musical ambitions.
Motivation
Keeping students motivated and on course, settings goals and ensuring they're driven to meet them.
Collaboration
Elevating through collaboration as part of a group, working to a common goal.
Lessons are delivered in a fun and engaging environment, and our tutor, Jamal, adapts his teaching style to suit each student's specific needs. We aim to instill belief and confidence in each student, encouraging them to be courageous enough to pursue a passion, and arming them with the tools and skillset necessary to achieve and excel within their chosen musical field.
Whether it's a group project or an individual 1-2-1 session, each lesson is carefully planned, with each student's progress monitored and nurtured, ensuring they take as much as possible out of each session.
Safeguarding
ITM (Inspire Through Music) believes that everyone we come into contact with, regardless of age, gender identity, disability, sexual orientation, or ethnic origin has the right to be protected from all forms of harm, abuse, neglect, and exploitation. ITM will not tolerate abuse and exploitation by staff or associated personnel.
ITM commits to addressing safeguarding throughout its work, through the three pillars of prevention, reporting and response.
We recognise that the welfare of children is paramount in all the work we do and in all the decisions we take.
Working in partnership with children, young people, their parents, carers and other agencies is essential in promoting young people’s welfare.

Founder and Tutor
Jamal Williamson
Jamal was raised in a household where music was the dominant force. A major influence was his dad, who had a strong reggae background. Jamal understood the power of music and wanted to influence others.
He soon recognised that music was a channel to reflect, express and heal. The healing power of music is becoming more recognised worldwide and is being used in many spheres of society.
He then began to teach himself how to song write produce and record his own music. Having developed a passion for music he then decided to further his skills by studying music at higher level education, he studied courses such as music production, music management and music performance.
Jamal prides his sessions on being vibrant high energy and intimate, encouraging students to express themselves in an artistic manor. Jamal runs the Musical Minds and Inspire At Home programme, whether it’s 1-1 or in groups every session is delivered with passion.
"The more I learnt about music, the more it positively impacted my life and my attitude, and the deeper my passion grew.
"Despite not having these kinds of opportunities in the mainstream curriculum whilst I was at school, I feel that encouraging the creativity these types of courses can bring is essential in a modern-day student's life.
"I want to ensure Inspire Through Music reaches every student that needs us."
